Jade trees are one of the easiest succulents to care for, however there are certain details that need to be taken into account for this little tree to develop properly.

The care of a jade tree in a pot or in direct soil will always be the same. If you have ever wondered how to care for a jade plant correctly , we will tell you 5 essential care tips to take into account:

1- Light

Light is an essential element for the growth of this plant. It can be direct or semi-direct light, but it should not be lacking.

The difference in exposure to sunlight will quickly become noticeable. If it is exposed to sunlight, its leaves will become bright light green with reddish edges. If it does not receive direct light and is in semi-shade, its leaves will become shiny but of an intense dark green color.

So when looking for the ideal place to put it, we advise you to place it near a window or directly outside. However, if we have it outside, we must be careful not to have it exposed during peak hours, where the sun is strongest, since we run the risk of its leaves burning.

2- Irrigation
Like all succulents, this beautiful little tree does not require much watering. Remember that its leaves are fleshy because they accumulate water.

So it needs sporadic watering, if we water it 15 to 20 days in winter and once a week in summer, it will be more than fine.

We must be very careful not to overwater it, as its roots are susceptible to constant humidity, which can cause them to rot. Many people recommend watering it with a spray bottle, but we do not recommend this as we may not be able to give it the amount of water it needs to survive.

It is always key to pay attention to the texture of the leaf . If it feels soft, it is because it needs water. If we watered it recently and it feels this way, it is because we are watering it too often. The leaves of our plant are always talking!

3- Substrate
The soil is another key point to consider. This is a plant that requires very good drainage because, as we mentioned earlier, its roots are very delicate and susceptible to waterlogging.

The substrate for a jade tree must be porous, so it must contain a mixture of sand, worm humus, volcanic perlite and garden soil, among others. These are essential ingredients that a succulent should never lack.

Fertilizing twice a year is essential, it will give it the nutrients it needs to flower. We can do this at the beginning of spring and during the summer. In this way, our jade tree will grow big and beautiful with abundant and shiny leaves.

4- Pruning
Pruning is essential for these small trees, as it stimulates their development. By removing the stems and leaves that are not useful, the tree’s energy will not be wasted and will only be concentrated on the healthy stems and leaves.

By removing stems, sick or dry leaves, we can also maintain their shape. When we do this, the elements we are going to use must be sterilized. We will also remove the small stems and put them in the ground to make new plants. They reproduce that easily!

5- Reproduction
All succulents are very easy to reproduce, we can quickly have a new plant, either to have in our home or to give to someone.

These succulents can be propagated by leaf or directly by stem. Personally, I always propagate by stem, when we remove the stem from the mother plant we put it directly in the ground. After a few days the leaves start to become soft, but don’t be afraid!

Little by little, we will see that our seedling will take root, we will notice it by the new leaves that will begin to emerge. When our new plant is in this process, it is necessary to water it more frequently.

And this is how we can have a vigorous jade tree, as we have seen, its care is simple. Having a beautiful plant like this is possible, if we always keep these tips in mind.
