Cleaning floors is one of the most important household tasks, not only to remove dust and dirt but also to maintain a hygienic and inviting home environment.
Often, floors can give off bad smells even after careful cleaning. Generally, it depends on whether you are using a cloth that has not dried well and has a strong “musty” smell.
But even if we spill food on the floor during our culinary experiments (like eggs, milk) and these foods are difficult to remove!
First of all, we need to neutralize bad smells from our floors, so discover the right way to make them smell good even after a few hours!
Let’s see together how to perfume the soil using homemade methods!
Marseille soap:
Marseille soap is one of the main ingredients for floor cleaning.
This soap, which must be natural, is available pure or in different variants, such as lavender, coconut or with the typical scent reminiscent of lemongrass.
This natural soap not only has a degreasing and cleansing effect, its scent also remains on the floors, which remain clean and streak-free!
How can you use it to perfume floors? We’ll see now!
For parquet:
When cleaning parquet, you must use delicate natural products and dry quickly, as parquet tends to absorb water!
For a perfumed parquet cleaner we need:
1 bar of Marseille soap, preferably melted
2 tablespoons of baking soda
3 liters of water
Dissolve everything in water and use a microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt. Dry quickly.
Marble floors:
Marble is an elegant and delicate stone, so we must use equally delicate products so as not to damage or dull it!
Here are the ingredients!
1 tablespoon of liquid Marseille soap
3 tablespoons of baking soda
10 tablespoons of methylated spirits
3 liters of water
With this mixture you can clean and disinfect your marble floors in an ecological way. Marseille soap also makes your floors very fragrant.
Marseille soap is an excellent ingredient for making excellent homemade cleaning products, even for ceramic or porcelain stoneware floors.
Essential oils:
Essential oils are an excellent natural remedy to scent your home. We can put them in room diffusers, make great linen scents or DIY room fragrances.
These are very concentrated oils that are not only very fragrant but also have many properties.
One of the most popular essential oils among many natural medicine enthusiasts is lavender essential oil. Its unique scent also has calming and antiseptic properties. It has a relaxing effect and is very fragrant.
In addition, essential oils can be combined (with the right dosage). You can add drops of tea tree oil, which has antifungal and antibacterial properties.
Or use geranium essential oil, which repels mosquitoes, or lemon essential oil, which is degreasing, antibacterial and has a fresh scent.
Add 7/8 drops of your favorite essential oil to the bucket of water, you will smell the soil!
How to eliminate bad smells:
In addition to perfuming, you must take measures to eliminate bad smells that may remain on the floors.
Floors can smell for a variety of reasons: for example, detergent residues or residues from strong-smelling foods such as eggs or milk can contribute to this.
In addition, if the cloth we use to clean the floor is not completely dry, it will give off a strong smell that will also remain on the floor!
Vinegar:
The best remedy for eliminating bad smells and perfume floors is vinegar. It has deodorizing and anti-limescale properties, absorbs bad smells and polishes floors.
Fill a bucket with water, add a few cups of white vinegar, 1 drop of organic detergent (no more) and some denatured alcohol.
This DIY cleaner removes dirt, eliminates bad odors and leaves your floors clean and shiny.
Do not use…
Vinegar should not be used on marble floors as it can damage or discolour them. It should also not be used on shiny floors.
As with vinegar, avoid using bleach or other substances on marble that could damage the texture of the material, corrode it or discolor it.
Warnings:
We remind you that it is very important to know the material the floor is made of before acting on your own initiative, so always follow the production instructions
