2 Methods to Easily Propagate Succulents

One of the many virtues of wonderful succulents is their versatility in that they can be reproduced and propagated . This can be done at any time of the year, but spring is undoubtedly the best time.

The first thing to do is to cut the plant and the modalities of this operation depend on the type of succulent that we want to reproduce. In the case of plants belonging to the genus Sedum or Echeveria , we start from the leaves, while in the case of Aeoniums , for propagation we start from the stem.

  1. Reproduce a succulent from leaves
Choose a healthy leaf and carefully turn it over. They often come off on their own or are slightly separated from the stem. The important thing is to take the whole leaf.

Once you have collected all the leaves you need, let them dry for about 3 days. If they are submerged in water, they could rot.

Also pay attention to the plant from which you have taken the leaves: let the scar close without applying water.

After three days, place the leaves on the ground, but without burying them and at a certain distance from each other. The roots will make their way into the soil.

  1. Reproduction by cutting or stem
This method is suitable if you want to propagate a larger part of a succulent plant. Take a branch of the succulent plant to be propagated and cut it from the stem, trying to make a clean, sharp cut.

Once the stem is cut, remove the leaves closest to the cut. Let it dry for 3 to 5 days before burying it in potting soil.

Watering
Water the soil only when it feels dry, but be careful not to overwater. Instead of pouring water on the soil, try spraying it to prevent waterlogging.

To check soil moisture, simply insert a finger.

It will take about a month for the roots to grow, but it all depends on factors like climate and light. Remember that succulents love light.
