Mold is a microscopic organism that multiplies easily in the right conditions: high humidity, condensation, water… The same conditions that occur in the bathroom of our homes.
Recognizing mold is very simple: it appears as black spots on tiles, curtains and silicone joints in the shower. Although there are chemicals that can eliminate mold in the blink of an eye, it is always good to know natural alternatives that are not toxic and harmful to health and bathroom materials.
Silicone is certainly not easy to clean due to its consistency, which among other things allows easy proliferation of mold.
How to Remove Mold from Bathroom Silicone in 30 Minutes
Fill a spray bottle with a solution of 200 ml of white vinegar and 3 tablespoons of baking soda. Shake well without closing the bottle and wait for the effervescent reaction to end.
Spray the vinegar and baking soda solution directly onto the silicone. For an even stronger effect, sprinkle more baking soda onto the surface.
Wait about 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
If possible, you can use an old toothbrush in the meantime to get rid of the mold. Don’t use too much force, the bristles could damage the silicone.
A Faster Way to Remove Mold from Silicone
If you can’t wait the 30 minutes of the previous remedy, try moistening a few cotton balls with bleach and placing them on the mold.
Let the bleach-soaked balls sit for 5 minutes, then remove and discard.
Remember to use gloves when applying this method.
How to Prevent Mold Growth
Open the bathroom window often to let it air out, especially after taking a shower.
Dry wet surfaces thoroughly with a dry cloth. This will greatly limit excess moisture.
Beyond the aesthetic factor, eliminating mold from the bathroom is a real health issue, since many respiratory problems are associated with the presence of mold in the home.
