on The most effective tips to make the Christmas cactus bloom all year round
The Christmas cactus , also sometimes called the Easter cactus ( Schlumbergera bridgessii ), is a beautiful winter-blooming houseplant that brings a splash of color to almost any interior.

This well-known plant is not only easy to care for, but can also be easily propagated and, by following simple tips, bloom continuously.

Christmas cactus can be propagated by cutting a small “Y” shaped segment from the ends of the stem. The segment should only come from a healthy part of the plant.

Plant the cut segment about a quarter of its length in slightly sandy soil. Moisten the soil evenly and place it in a bright location but out of direct sunlight.

To generate roots for new plants, cut the shoots from the tips at the second joint of each plant. The cut portion should show signs of growth after a few weeks, after which it can be transferred to another pot with a mixture of soil, compost and sand.

How to care for Christmas cactus to make it bloom
Although it does not require special care, a few small tips are enough to ensure healthy and abundant flowering of the Christmas cactus .

This plant adapts easily to low light conditions, but will produce more flowers if placed in brighter environments. Caution: direct sunlight can burn the leaves, so place the plant in a well-protected, yet bright, corner.

Watering is very important for the Christmas cactus. The plant needs frequent and abundant irrigations in spring and summer, to keep the soil always moist but without water stagnation.

Water frequently and allow the soil to dry out, but never completely. Overwatering can cause root rot.

Christmas cactus prefers temperatures between 15°C and 21°C and a medium humidity level. It may be a good idea to place a tray of pebbles filled with water under your Christmas cactus pot to increase humidity.

Once your Christmas cactus has finished flowering (usually in the fall), allow the plant to complete its dormant cycle by reducing watering frequency and light. Make sure the plant receives at least 12 to 14 hours of darkness and a temperature between 50°F and 54°F. Keep the plant away from heat sources (such as stoves or radiators) and cold drafts.

When properly cared for, the Christmas cactus can surprise us with frequent and unexpected flowering cycles.
