A trick to make worn-out pans non-stick again

In recent decades, non-stick pans have enjoyed enormous popularity due to their practicality. This type of pan, almost always coated with an internal Teflon coating, has revolutionized the way we cook at home.

As they are used and washed, these pans tend to lose their non-stick properties , even becoming dangerous to health in some cases. If they are scratched, for example, they should be immediately thrown away and replaced .

Non-stick pans can be reclaimed and it is not as difficult as it seems. There are many different methods and each of them helps us to make the pan look like new.

How to Restore a Non-Stick Pan
The most common method is to use an oil to coat the top layer of the pan.

Peanut oil
Before applying the method, make sure you have cleaned the pan well, to remove any stains or food residue. After cleaning and drying the pan well, apply a thin layer of peanut oil on its surface, then place it on the stove for 60 to 90 seconds.

Once the pan has cooled, make sure to get rid of all the oil residue. After that, use a soft sponge to wash the pan.

You can repeat this process every 6 months, but if you use a dishwasher you may need to apply it every 4 months.

Coconut oil
Place the pan on the stove and heat it slightly. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 150 degrees.

Apply a little coconut oil to the inside surface of the pan, making sure to spread it evenly. The layer of oil should be about 2 cm. Place in the oven for at least 2 hours.

The heat of the oven will allow the oil to cover the entire surface of the pan. After two hours, turn off the oven and let the pan cool overnight to allow the oil to dry.

Vinegar and baking soda
This remedy is one of the most effective. Add 250 ml of water, 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 125 ml of white vinegar to the pan. Wait for the effervescent effect to end, then turn on the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

Let cool, discard the liquid and dry the pan thoroughly. Then apply vegetable oil while the pan is still hot.
