How to Remove Mold from Walls with Borax

Water leaks, poor air circulation, and other factors can cause mold to grow and accumulate on walls. Repainting isn’t enough; you need to eradicate and remove the mold so it doesn’t reappear after a few days. Below, we suggest how to remove mold from walls with borax .

Using borax to remove mold has many benefits. First, borax is a natural cleaning product, and while toxic if ingested, it doesn’t release dangerous chemicals or gases like almost all commercial cleaning products. It’s a white mineral with a pH of about 9 (baking soda’s pH is 8.1, while 7 is neutral) and low toxicity.

Borax is used as an air freshener, but also to clean toilets and drains. It also has strong insecticidal, herbicidal, and fungicidal properties, and when mixed with water, it’s an excellent solution for eliminating mold. Borax can be purchased at the supermarket and costs very little.

Below we explain how to use borax to eliminate mold :

Prepare a solution of 1 cup of borax for every gallon of water.
Vacuum the mold off the surface using a vacuum cleaner equipped with a filter to reduce spores in the air during cleaning.
Use a brush with the borax and water solution to remove any mold on the surface.
Wipe away any excess moisture and mold to prevent airborne spread once the wall is dry.
Do not rinse: the solution will prevent the formation of mold on the surface.
