Ginger is one of the most valued ingredients in traditional medicine. This Asian root is considered a natural antibiotic and offers numerous health benefits.
In this article, we’ll explain how to grow ginger at home , even if you don’t have a garden. All you need is a sunny window. It’s important to remember that ginger’s growing season lasts between 8 and 10 months. Ginger should be planted in February/March.
- Before planting, you will need to “wake up” the ginger by immersing it in water and potassium permanganate (you can find it at the pharmacy) for about 2 hours.
- Place the ginger in a plastic bag and seal it. Leave it in the bag until it begins to sprout (photo 2).
- Cut a piece of ginger for each sprout (e.g. 8 sprouts, cut into 8 pieces).
- In a pot with soil, insert some humus and sand, and mix with the soil.
- Once the soil is prepared, plant the ginger as shown in photo 3, so that the shoot can grow towards the sun.
Water the potting soil when it is very dry. Do not add too much water, as this could cause the roots to rot.
