We are talking about the lemon , the yellow and sparkling citrus fruit, useful for many preparations in the kitchen and essential at home. Do you want to always have it fresh? So let’s see how to grow a lemon tree in a pot , put it on the balcony , use it but also admire it.
With lemon
The lemon tree (citrus limon) is an evergreen Indian plant, cultivated particularly in Sicily. Sensitive to cold and wind, it is necessary in our regions to grow it mainly in pots, to protect it from cold winds and frost.
How to grow lemon
The best time to plant lemons, or pot them, is in early spring, when temperatures begin to stabilize. The soil must be soft and porous, resistant to waterlogging, also because it will need to be watered frequently. It is advisable to place a few centimeters of expanded clay at the bottom of the pot to absorb water and prevent rot.
I repot
Lemons should be repotted every two years and placed in a larger container. If you sow them, you should start with a pot with a diameter of 30 to 40 cm.
Treatment
Those who started by sowing will need to water the soil until it germinates. Only then can you add fertilizer. When the plant reaches 20 cm, it can be repotted into a larger container.
Anyone who has already purchased a lemon tree will only need to ensure proper care, including continuous and more intense watering in summer. The soil must always be moist.
Size
It should be done in winter, removing dry and damaged leaves.
Fertilization
Lemon should be fertilized twice a year.
