Have your cyclamen leaves turned yellow? Here’s what’s causing the problem and how to restore them

Have your cyclamen leaves suddenly turned yellow? There’s a reason for this, and it’s possible to combat it. Find out why this happens and how to restore your plants’ health.
Why do cyclamen leaves turn yellow?
Cyclamen is a particularly cold-resistant plant. It blooms in both autumn and winter, and its white, red, or pink flowers are magnificent.

However, sometimes its leaves may appear discolored. This problem can be caused by a pot that is too small, improper watering, or a lack of necessary nutrients.

Watering plays a key role in the appearance of the leaves, especially if the cyclamen is grown in a pot. Watering too frequently or too heavily can damage the plant. This can cause root rot, which over time damages the leaves, which will begin to yellow and then turn brown. In this case, they will inevitably fall off.

If the soil is still damp and doesn’t dry out, mold may also appear on your plant. If this happens, you can try not watering the plant again until the soil is completely dry.

Improper watering can also cause cyclamen leaves to discolor. If the plant isn’t watered enough, the leaves will tend to turn yellow. The youngest leaves turn yellow first. If they fall off and the soil is too dry to recover the plant, it will need to be watered.

An excellent and effective solution in this case is to water the cyclamen by immersion. Place the pot in a basin filled with water for about ten minutes so that the soil absorbs the water it needs.

If the pot you’re growing your cyclamen in is too small, the leaves will no longer be green but will tend to turn yellow. If the roots extend beyond the drainage holes, this means the plant doesn’t have enough space. In this case, you’ll need to immediately repot the plant into a taller and wider pot.

The leaves may turn yellow if the cyclamen doesn’t get the necessary nutrients it needs. This can happen if the soil hasn’t been amended or simply because it needs more nutrients.

In this case, a liquid fertilizer diluted in water can be added during the flowering phase. You will need to repeat this step at least once a month.
