Begonia: the trick to watering it at the right time for spectacular flowering!

Plants can fulfill various fundamental functions for nature and our existence. Among these, however, aesthetics should not be underestimated. Yes, because plants like the Begonia can best beautify a balcony or terrace.

For this reason, we have decided to provide a series of guidelines that can be useful to best cultivate this fantastic plant and achieve a truly spectacular result in terms of color.

Repot it properly
Among the most common mistakes that can be made in the care of plants, especially begonias , is the activity of repotting . It is important to understand that the plant must be repotted at the right time, so as to make it grow in height but also in width.

Before repotting, the roots should have occupied practically the entire outer part of the root ball : they should be dense and narrow . The choice of the vase is obviously also very important (terracotta is preferable). The best time to repot is spring.

Observe the leaves of the Begonia
From the leaves it is possible to understand when it is best to water the begonia . When these tend to decrease significantly, it means that they need water. The soil, in any case, must always be moist but not wet because the roots of the begonia are very sensitive and can rot.

From the leaves, it is also possible to notice the presence of possible pests and act accordingly: holes, spots and filaments can be revealing. Therefore, act immediately.

Prune the stems
Another tip for better begonia care is to trim the tallest stems to stimulate their growth. All you have to do is cut below a node or at the point where a new leaf is about to emerge. Even in this case, it’s important to choose the right time: spring is the most appropriate time of year.

Fertilizing Begonia
Begonias, as perhaps not everyone knows, are characterized by abundant flowering. Fertilization can help this result, in this sense: use a fertilizer rich in potassium, at most once every three to four weeks. Banana peels can also be useful as a natural fertilizer.

Importance of cuttings
Finally, cuttings are of significant importance. Balconies can be filled by simply cutting the stem to 10 cm and letting it dry for a few days before burying it. The pot with the cutting should be placed in a bright location.
