The dishwasher is one of the most popular household appliances: there is nothing more practical, after serving a big dinner, than not having to worry about having to wash mountains of pots and dirty dishes. However, limescale and food residue tend to accumulate in the dishwasher, which can lead to bad odors.
There are dozens of dishwasher cleaners on the market, almost all of them effective but by no means eco-friendly or cheap. In reality, two simple natural ingredients are all you need to thoroughly clean your dishwasher: baking soda and vinegar .
Below we explain how to clean the dishwasher with the bowl method , using only bicarbonate and vinegar, to have a perfectly clean and fragrant appliance.
First, spread about 150 grams of baking soda over the entire interior of the dishwasher, from the bottom to the cutlery baskets.
Baking soda is very effective in removing limescale and grease , but also in neutralizing bad odors .
The second step is to place a bowl (or cup) filled with white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher.
Vinegar also neutralizes bad odors, disinfects and removes limescale .
Finally, run a high temperature wash and wait until it is completely finished.
When washing, the vinegar and baking soda will come into contact and, thanks to the chemical reaction, the dishwasher will be thoroughly cleaned. Only clean water will remain in the bowl.
