How to grow lettuce from leftovers?

To grow your own seedless lettuce indoors, plant the bottom end of the lettuce in water. This way, you can grow endlessly from what usually goes in the trash.

How to grow lettuce from leftovers?

  1. First, remove the largest outer leaves from the lettuce head. Then, remove the bottom of the lettuce head with a knife and make a clean cut about 3 cm from the bottom.

  1. You now have the base of your lettuce heads. Save the leaves for a delicious salad and learn how to get fresh lettuce from the seedless tip.
  2. All you need is a bowl, glass, or salad bowl to hold all the lettuce bottoms.
  3. Pour enough water into the container so that the bottom of the lettuce head remains submerged under one centimeter.
  4. Place the bottom of the lettuce head in a bowl filled with water.
  5. Place the container indoors, near a sunny window. This will expose it to semi-shaded light.
  6. Write the start date of this cup on the glass or bowl and remember to change the water once a day.

When and how to transfer lettuce to a pot or to the ground?
After 15 days, you can already see that the head is well developed. The first root will have formed and, even better, the first leaf will have formed in the center of the lettuce.

You’ll need to remove the outer leaves without damaging the roots. Then, you can transplant the lettuce into a regular round pot filled with a mixture of humus and peat. Dig about two fingers deep, then fill the pot with soil.
