To sew a roller blind, just follow these simple instructions – you don’t need to spend money on buying a new one.

However, many would prefer that the roller shutters do not come into contact with the window , as during the winter months condensation could cause them to become wet and moldy.
This is why it is possible to make roller shutters by hanging them on the outside of the window , in order to overcome this problem. In this case, the fabric must be wider than the window opening and cover the slopes. Therefore, it is worth adding about 5 to 10 centimeters on both sides of the opening, depending on the projection of the sill.
The most important detail is obviously the lifting mechanism . It is necessary to use two ropes, where tassels are attached to the bottom which always gives a certain elegance.
Regarding the fabric, the choice depends on your taste, although it is advisable to avoid fabrics that are too elastic . The chosen fabric should easily wrap around the frame and protect well from light.
If you’re buying a curtain directly, the fabric will already be hemmed. However, if you’re buying regular fabric, you’ll need to fold it inside out and then sew it. Then, when cutting, you’ll need to add seam allowances to the width.
To attach the top of the canvas to the gutter, you need to make a cord . You fold the edge the wrong way by one inch, then fold it again, sewing along the edge of the curve, as you can see in the video.
The width must be carefully calculated to allow a perfect fit of the tube and prevent the fabric from twisting.
Homemade roller blinds: a quick and easy solution
Once everything is finished, we can start inserting the tube into the opening we just made. Wrap the fabric around the tube and slide a glazing bead (possibly one or two centimeters shorter than the width of the curtain) into the bottom pocket.

Once this step is completed, the ropes are inserted into the outermost holes of the gutter and a nice knot is made. The cable should be wrapped around one side of the pipe, also adding caps on the sides of the gutter to prevent the coil from flying away.
