on How to shorten pants while keeping the original hem (simple method)
It may happen that you end up with pants that are longer than necessary . Maybe we liked them so much that we bought them anyway, with the idea of taking them to the tailor, or this can often happen with children.

In fact, when you buy new pants, it rarely happens that their length is adapted to the child’s height.

Also, as they grow quickly, we want the pants to last longer and therefore be able to restore them to their original length in the future.

Below we explain how to shorten a pair of pants while keeping the original hem and without cutting off the excess. It is a very simple method, and you do not need to be an expert tailor to put it into practice.

Fold the bottom of the pants outward, so that the original hem is slightly above the desired length.

We run the sewing machine right next to the edge of the original hem.

We fold inwards and iron over the fold we just made. The pants are ready!

To further secure the fold, we hand sew a few stitches along the side seams of the pants.

If you want to shorten it permanently, you don’t need to keep the excess fabric after folding. In this case, the best thing to do is to cut off the remaining canvas.
