Home Tips

It’s not baking soda or vinegar! This economical product is all you need to quickly whiten darkened bathroom tile grout!

Tile joints in floors, bathrooms, and kitchens often lose their whiteness and turn black. In humid environments, they also become covered with dark, smelly mold. In addition, the spaces between tiles, which are usually slightly indented, facilitate the accumulation of dirt, causing the joints to turn black.

There are several very effective natural remedies for eliminating mold. Lavender essential oil is one of them. It is also useful for removing mold from both internal and external walls in the home.

Baking soda or vinegar are often used to whiten tile grout with natural products. Being excellent antibacterial and antimicrobial agents, these two products are quite effective. Additionally, baking soda also neutralizes odors. Vinegar, on the other hand, can leave your home with a very pungent odor.

Not just baking soda and vinegar, this other economical product will also do the trick!

In addition to baking soda and vinegar, you can use another product we all have at home to whiten tiles. It’s hydrogen peroxide, which is useful for sterilizing wounds.

This product, which can be found in supermarkets for a few euros, combines perfectly with baking soda. They are an effective remedy for eliminating and neutralizing musty odors. Hydrogen peroxide is also an excellent degreaser.

Simply mix ½ liter of hydrogen peroxide and ½ cup of baking soda (about 100 grams). Mix the two ingredients well until you get a semi-solid paste.

Using a disposable glove, spread the paste over the blackened grout and scrub with a toothbrush or sponge. Leave on for about 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. If necessary, repeat the process until the desired surface is completely whitened.

The same process can be used to whiten the joints between bathroom tiles and floor tiles.

Other remedies

Another effective but more expensive remedy is toilet descaling gel. Simply pour the product between the tiles and let it sit for about 20 minutes. The results are excellent, but it’s more aggressive and less environmentally friendly.
