The orchid is a beautiful plant and you just need to follow a few simple rules to ensure it blooms for a long time.
Orchids are very special and beautiful flowers . They are plants native to equatorial climates, but have also adapted to our temperatures . They beautify our homes with their colors , sometimes intense, others soft . They belong to the Orcidaceae family . There are many species , some of which are only cultivated , while others grow spontaneously in nature.
They are mostly epiphytic plants , that is, they have aerial roots . This allows them to live on tree trunks or rocks and recover the water they need as well as certain substances from decomposing organisms. In our homes , on the contrary, the most widespread species are those whose roots must be buried.
If we are about to buy an orchid or someone has given it to us and we do not know how to take care of it, we should know that it is not difficult to take care of it, but we must follow some precautions if we do not want to see it fade and die in a short time.
First of all, let’s take into account that the orchid likes light and humid climates , given its tropical origins. However, it is not a plant to plant in the ground . We must find a good position within our walls. The area it prefers is one that faces south or east.
The ideal place to plant our orchid
The sun’s rays shouldn’t hit it directly, but the location should be very bright. Lack of light is, in fact, one of the main reasons why our orchid could die. The ideal temperature is between 23 and 24°C at most and between 16 and 17°C at least.

We also pay attention to humidity. Too much humidity could ruin the flowers, and too little could cause the leaves to wrinkle and turn yellow . The ideal humidity is around 70% , perfect for beautifying our bathrooms or kitchens. It’s also best to place a saucer filled with expanded clay or gravel.
Add a little water which, when evaporated, will guarantee the right humidity to the roots. Alternatively, we can water the plant, always in the morning , with demineralized water or, even better, rain . Irrigations should be minimal and only when the soil is dry.
Once a week is enough, in winter and 2 or 3 times in summer. Water should be given in the morning and it is important to be careful of stagnation . These could, in fact, suffer root rot and completely ruin our orchid . All we have to do is apply these few tips and see our orchid flourish for many years.
