Rust stains are common on toilets and other bathroom fixtures , especially near metal parts such as faucets or toilet bowl hinges.
Seeing these stains is certainly not pleasant, but you will be happy to know that it is possible to remove them using only natural and home remedies.
Want to know which ones? Let’s take a look: your bathroom fixtures will be as white as they were when you bought them!
Sodium bicarbonate
The first trick is to use the famous baking soda , which has a slightly abrasive action capable of removing even the most stubborn stains.
So start by pouring a little baking soda onto a damp sponge, then rub it several times on the rust stain until it disappears.
At this point, rinse and goodbye to rust stains! For a more gentle approach and to avoid scratching the faucets, you can also mix baking soda and water until you get a paste-like mixture.
Vinegar
Another very effective remedy is to use vinegar , which can descale and remove stains. We remind you, in fact, that it is ideal for removing yellow stains in the toilet!
Simply pour the vinegar onto a microfiber cloth or dip it into a bowl of vinegar, then wipe it over the rust stains. Then, scrub until the rust disappears! Alternatively, you can also apply the vinegar-soaked cloth directly to the stain and leave it for a few hours or overnight to soften the stain.
Finally, scrub with a sponge and rinse thoroughly: your toilet will be as good as new! If there are rust stains in the toilet, we suggest first drying the bowl with a plunger until all the water is absorbed, then pouring a liter of pure white vinegar directly into the toilet.
Then, leave it to act for at least 3 hours or, for a more effective effect, overnight, after which, scrub the toilet bowl with a toilet brush. Goodbye rust stains!
Citric acid
Citric acid is similar to vinegar, which is considered a natural descaler that can rid washing machines and dishwashers of dirt and limescale! All you need to do is pour 150 grams of citric acid into 1 liter of hot water , mix everything together, and then pour the solution onto the rust stain.
At this point, let it sit for about two hours, then scrub with a sponge and rinse. As if that weren’t enough, this remedy can also be used to polish faucets thanks to the polishing properties of citric acid!
Onion
This may seem like a rather strange remedy, but it seems to work. What is it? Onion ! Yes, the one we commonly use in cooking!
Cut an onion in half and dip it on a saucer containing sugar : you will get a sponge capable of cleaning rust stains from bathrooms, thanks to its slightly abrasive function! Then, wipe the sponge over the stain and that’s it!
Potato
Finally, let’s look at one last tip which consists of using a raw potato. Indeed, this tuber contains oxalic acid capable of removing rust stains .
Peel a potato and cut it in half, then rub it directly onto the rust stain using half of the potato as if it were a sponge . For an even more effective effect, we recommend adding a little baking soda and vinegar to the stain.
