Ginger is a plant very rich in therapeutic properties, very widespread in Asian natural medicine and today widespread and appreciated throughout the world. It is also used in cooking and is a fundamental ingredient in many preparations.
It is precisely for this reason that having a ginger plant at home and therefore a constant supply can be very practical. In this article, we explain how to grow ginger at home to enjoy its benefits.
To start, get a good piece of root and leave it exposed to moisture for a few days to encourage rhizome growth. To do this, you can soak the root in water for 3-4 hours, then remove it and place it on paper towels for a few minutes and then put it in a plastic bag. The rhizomes should appear after a week.
Fill a pot with a mixture of three parts all-purpose potting soil and one part worm castings . If you are planting multiple root balls, be sure to give them room to grow.
Bury the piece of ginger root shallowly, not deeply . Place it on top of the potting soil and push it down slightly. Make sure the sprouts stay out of the potting soil.
Finally, water the soil a little without wetting the shoots. Ginger will take 3-4 months to grow and be ready to harvest.
The ginger plant grows best outdoors on the terrace or balcony. It is important not to expose it to direct sunlight, but to partial shade.
Water lightly and frequently, until the soil is moist but avoiding standing water.
