
Lemon is a fruit native to Asia and now cultivated all over the world. Widely used in cooking, it is one of those ingredients we can’t live without, which is why having a lemon tree at home can be very useful, as well as economical.
To plant lemons in pots, you don’t need a garden or vegetable patch. However, you do need to live in a location with a suitable climate and have a bit of a green thumb. By planting lemons in pots, you can have a miniature plant, ideal for small spaces.
To plant a lemon, you’ll need a pot at least 50 centimeters deep. The soil should be rich in organic matter and well-aerated. Using an organic fertilizer is also recommended.
It is possible to plant a lemon tree from seeds, but it will require a lot of patience as it is a rather long process.
The lemon tree, like all citrus fruits, prefers direct sunlight for several hours a day. The ideal climate for this type of tree is the Mediterranean. In principle, almost all types of lemon tolerate little frost.
Water the lemon tree only when the topsoil becomes dry, even if it’s just a touch dry. One of the main causes of lemon tree death is overwatering, which prevents it from draining properly and eventually “suffocates” the tree itself.
