Ants in the kitchen, mosquitoes and flies in the house… Insects can be very unpleasant. Not to mention bites and hygiene. Keeping the house spotlessly clean and the windows closed may not be enough, and commercial insecticides, while effective at keeping insects away, cause a series of side effects that are detrimental to our health.
To avoid dangerous sprays and chemicals, especially in the kitchen, we offer you 3 DIY insecticides that are very effective and, above all, absolutely safe to apply, even near food.
Insecticide #1 – Diatomaceous Earth (or Diatomaceous Earth)
This soil promises to keep ants, spiders, crickets, and all other types of insects away for a fairly long period of time. This red powder, composed primarily of silica gel, can be applied to any corner of the house without any side effects. Try to use plastic gloves when removing it, as it can dry out the skin. It can be purchased at agricultural or hardware stores.
Insecticide No. 2 – Pepper Repellent Spray
Insects hate spices. Interestingly, almost all insects absorb flavors through their feet, not their mouths. If an insect is surrounded by soil containing spicy substances, it will either move away or die. Prepare an infusion of chili, pepper, or other spicy ingredients, place them in a bottle equipped with a diffuser, and apply it to furniture or plants to repel insects.
Insecticide No. 3 – Catnip
This herb, which cats love because it has a “surprising” effect on them, is an excellent insecticide that will keep many insects away, especially cockroaches. You can prepare a catnip infusion and spread it around the house, or you can plant the herb directly in a strategic corner of the house.
